This season, Chrystal E. Williams makes her Metropolitan Opera debut, in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, appears with Minnesota Opera, Seattle Symphony, and Orchestra 2001, and launches “Forrópera”, which she co-created with duo partner, Brazilian accordionist Felipe Hostins, combining elements of classical music with Brazilian folk music. She created the role of Rebecca in Charlie Parker’s YARDBIRD for Opera Philadelphia, and has reprised it for English National, Atlanta, Arizona, and Seattle operas, and at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. She has sung leading roles with Birmingham (U.K.), Washington National, Sarasota, and Knoxville operas, Opera Delaware, Glimmerglass, Caramoor, and many others, and has soloed with the Cairo Symphony, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), among others, including The Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. She holds degrees from the Academy of Vocal Arts, the Yale School of Music, and Carnegie Mellon University.
