First Prize Winner of Hannover’s 2018 Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, Timothy Chooi was awarded the 2018 Verbier Festival Academy Prix Yves Paternot, for the “Most Accomplished Young Musician” as well as First Prize and Audience Choice Winner in the 2018 Schadt String Competition. He is also the Bronze Medal winner of New Zealand’s 2015 Michael Hill International Violin Competition and the Grand Prize winner of the 2010 Montreal Symphony Manulife Competition. He has performed with every major orchestra in his native Canada. Highlights include concerti with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Santa Barbara Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, and Edmonton Symphony. Recently, he performed with violinist Pinchas Zukerman and recorded his debut album. He studies at The Juilliard School, and previously studied at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Mount Royal University Conservatory, and the Curtis Institute of Music.
