First Prize winner of New Zealand’s 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition and a Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition, Nikki Chooi came to national attention in 2004 as the Grand Award winner of both the Canadian National Music Festival and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Standard Life competitions. He has appeared as soloist with the Victoria, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and St. Petersburg State symphonies, as well as the National Orchestra of Belgium, Malaysian Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, Calgary Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, and numerous others. He has made Guest Concertmaster appearances with the Pittsburgh, Houston, and Sydney symphony orchestras, and served as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He was also a member of the genre-defying Astral laureate trio Time for Three. He holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School.
