The winner of a 2016 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, Gabriel Cabezas was the First Place Laureate of the 2012 Sphinx Competition, and also the winner of its Junior Division in 2006. As a Sphinx Medal of Excellence winner, he recorded Britten’s Suites for Solo Cello. He has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, National Symphony of Costa Rica, Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony, New World Symphony, and the Nashville Symphony, among others. He tours with “Musicians from Marlboro” and is a member of the sextet ‘yMusic,’ which has collaborated with Paul Simon, and alternative musical group Dirty Projectors. He is a co-founder of Duende, a new music and contemporary dance collective, and a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music.
